| While there are various definitions in use
around the world and in Australia, PSA sees ‘Product
Stewardship’ as a practical approach aimed at systematically
reducing the life cycle environmental impacts of consumer
electronics, with a particular focus on waste avoidance and
resource recovery. Inherent in PSA’s view of Product
Stewardship is the need for a ‘Shared Product Responsibility’ model
of implementation whereby all stakeholders adopt specific
obligations and responsibilities relevant to their place
in the supply chain.
PSA is proactively working towards the
development, coordination and promotion of a phased national
recovery and processing
scheme for EoL consumer electronics, starting with TVs. As
part of this work, PSA expects other sectors to also increase
their contribution and participation, especially, consumers,
retailers and governments.
